June 171775Battle of Bunker Hill took place (on Breed's Hill).  American General William Prescott told his soldiers "Don't one of you fire until you see the whites of their eyes".  If the outnumbered patriots had not run out of ammunition they may have won the battle, but it was a moral victory none the less
June 171994O.J. took Los Angeles police on the infamous "low-speed chase".  As police arrived at the home of his friend and lawyer Robert Karadashian to arrest O.J. he slipped out the back door with former teammate Al Cowlings and they leave in Cowling's white Ford Bronco.  The pursuit on I-405 lasted an hour at 35 miles per hour
June 171974An Air France Concorde beat a 747, easily, from Boston to Paris (and back).  The Concorde left Logan Airport just as a 747 left Orly, stopped over an hour at Orly, then made the return to Logan, landing 11 minutes before the 747 had landed once!
June 171972Five men broke into the Democratic National Committee's office at the Watergate Hotel and Office complex.  The men, headed by the security chief for CREEP (The Committee to Re-elect the President) James McCord, were arrested.  Nixon campaign funds and CIA equipment were later linked to the break-in
June 171989New Kids on the Block reached Billboard Pop #1 with "I'll Be Loving You Forever" from the 8X Platinum album "Hangin' Tough"

June 181886Mountain climber George Mallory was born.  Famous for the answer "because it's there" to the question of why he would want to climb it.  He died on June 8th or 9th, 1924 on Mount Everest after disappearing near the summit on his third trip up.  His body was found May 2, 1999 by an expedition who had hoped to do just that
June 191964Carol Doda became the world's first topless performer (according to a California State Historical marker at The Condor in San Francisco).  The plaque also says she also became the world's first bottomless performer on 9/3/1969 at the club
June 191623The  child prodigy, trained by his tax collector father, who invented the mechanical calculator in 1642, Blaise Pascal was born
June 191916The actor who played Mr. Haney on "Green Acres", Pat Buttram was born
June 191897Moe Howard of the Three Stooges was born Harry Moses Horwitz.  He was married to Harry Houdini's cousin Helen for just a month short of 50 years at his death

June 201863West Virginia becomes the 35th (or 24th) U.S. state.  When Virginia seceded with the other 10 Confederate states, most western Virginians didn't want to leave the union so they reestablished a state government and gained admittance
June 201947Mobster 'Bugsy' Siegel was killed by Lucky Luciano's gang.  The gangster who saw the potential in Las Vegas, building the Flamingo Hotel with gang money, was shot at the home of his mistress, Virginia Hill, in Beverly Hills, California
June 201977The trans-Alaska pipeline began operation.  The 800-mile long pipeline sends oil from ice-choked Prudhoe Bay to the port in Valdez, Alaska
June 201981Stars on 45 took their medley of disco & Beatles to #1.  Just six months after John Lennon's death, a studio group put "Venus", "Sugar Sugar", and eight Beatles songs to a disco beat
June 201979A solar energy system was installed at the White House.  In the aftermath of the OPEC oil embargo from five years earlier President Carter had a system installed on the roof capable of providing hot water to the whole building.  Reagan took it down 7 years later.  In 1992 Unity College of Maine got it
